handmade paper sculpture
This series, started in 2022, is rooted in place and often focuses on the ongoing crises of habitat destruction. Each piece depicts a personal experience related to a location. The work often compares the living natural environment with one bulldozed by relentless development. This is a body of non-representational constructions of stainless steel and cast paper. They are fragments of recollections, memories of emotions related to locations and events in my past.
The work considers particular places and times, sometimes there are specific art pieces that influence the design. It is a terse visual poetry that speaks about love of life and loss of attachment over time. It presents experiences in a format unique to the artist, demonstrating an affinity to cast paper and the process used. Cast paper has a rough, almost primitive look when formed onto a mesh, especially when seeds and flower petals are blended with the fibers. The artist uses this texture to enrich the work and create emotional touch points for the content.
